The two-year grant from the will supporg several laboratory positions while accelerating research into the relationship between impulsivityy anddrug abuse. Principal investigator on the study isJerrh Richards, an expert in psychobiology and researcu scientist at UB’s Research Institute on Addiction. He is also researc associate professor in the department of psycholog y and assistant professor in the department of pharmacologhyand toxicology.
In a preparedf release, Richards said the granr quickens the pace of his research program, enabling answers about the relationshipo between the positive, euphoric consequencesw of drug taking and the often delayed, negativ consequences associated with drug taking. The grant will supporgt research opportunities for UB students andyounvg scientists, he said. “Thid award is creating new jobs, providingg educational opportunities for students and youn scientists and providing funds for purchasing a variety oflaboratory supplies,” Richards said.
The research team include s neuroscientistAlexis Thompson, as co-investigator, a research scientist at RIA and research associate professor in the department of The Recovery Act included $10.4 billion for NIH, including $8.2 billion for scientificf research priorities.
