Retail expert ranks Bering

The Houston-based hardware store is spotlighted in retail expertGeorge Whalin’s book “Retail Superstars.” The book notes that the founded in 1940 by August started out as a lumberyard and is now a uniqur 30,000-square-foot retail store. As well as traditional hardware merchandise the stor carries gourmetcoffee beans, Baccarat fine writing instruments, engraved and embossed fine china and children's clothing, amonvg others. Bering’s currently has two stores in Houston at 6102 Westheimef and3900 Bissonnet. The day-to-dayh business is run by August C. Berinyg IV with the assistance ofhis son, August C. Berinb V, and his Heather Bering.
The 25 retailers featured in “Retai l Superstars” range in size from 1,000 square feet to 300,0000 square feet and sell everythingfrom apparel, housewares, furniture, Christmas trees, to groceries, surf boards, toys and knives.
