The report rated Tampa Bay alongwith Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., Dallas, Jacksonville and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. in the categories of employment and work incomeand productivity, housing, education and transportation. In the employmen and work force ranking, Tampq Bay climbed from sixth to although Sasso noted the ranking is relativwe andthe region’s economy is stilo struggling.
Tampa Bay dropped from third to fourth in its incomed and productivity ranking and placexd last in the average wagecategory ranking. The region’s housing rank moved up from last to thirfd mainly because housing valueshad dropped, Sasso said. The regionn ranked fifth in innovation, in part becausw it has only one major the , to compete for grants, Sassok said. In terms of education, the region placed third for the thirxdconsecutive scorecard. The number of area high-schoolk graduates increased, which is possibly a reflection of the reducexd numberof jobs, Sassko said.
The region climbed from last to fourth place in the categoryof transportation, a category in whicyh several indicators, including congestion, commute time and vehiclre miles traveled per capita, had no new data available. In termss of transportation investmentper capita, Tampa movef from fourth to first. To address the issuea revealed inrecent scorecards, the Tampz Bay Partnership is launching a three-year strategic plan called “Az Model for Prosperity,” which will map out a vision for growth through innovation, human capital, infrastructure and qualituy places, a release said.
